Slickhorn Canyon Dayhike-
Slickhorn One to Two

This is a short dayhike that takes you into "Slickhorn One", the northernmost canyon in the Slickhorn drainage and out "Slickhorn Two", the second canyon down. I did this hike in March of 2005. I started at the trailhead at the head of Slickhorn Canyon and walked downcanyon, around the large pouroff, and out the second drainage. The pouroff is easily negotiable, the trail around it is easy to find. Once out the second drainage and on the mesatop, you can head directly north across the mesa back to the trailhead, or walk east to the road and then back to the trailhead. Keep your eyes open on this hike- you might see four or five ruins along the way.

To access Slickhorn Canyon, from Highway 261, south of the Bullet Canyon trailhead, take road 230 west. Road 239 is just across the highway heading east. Road 230 eventually turns to the south just past the turn for Government Trail. Stay left when you see the sign for Government Trail, which takes you north. Continue on until you come to a clearly defined road to the west, and the trailhead. You will see this road in the southeast corner of the Polly's Pasture mapsheet heading into the head of Slickhorn Canyon. There is camping at the trailhead.

1:24,000 mapsheets for this hike are Polly's Pasture and Slickhorn Canyon East. If you want to see all the roads involved you will also need Cedar Mesa North and Cedar Mesa South.
